Sound Bite
06:00
|
|||
A sound surrounds them, biting through
To amplify lies and smother truth
No explanations, no need for proof
A word distorted, a fact abused
A sound confounds them, biting deep
Injects confusion, infection creeps
Your empty promise is washed away
And you know they'll forget, tomorrow
Every single word you said today
And they won't judge you ‘cos they don't care
Because you bring them sound
That familiar sound that's endlessly repeating, reaffirming
But they don't see the stage beneath them
Just so consumed with sound and fury
So full of rage,
Because we won't engage
Their truth is not confirmed by us.
They are not to blame
They're merely players in your game
You paint a picture of the monster hiding underneath their bed
They know exactly who to fear
They know the simple sound they hear
Will bring protection and respect
To distracted to reflect
They don't hear the real monster you so cleverly inflect
And when your words become their only source for knowing what is true
And when the window has moved over to an unfamiliar view
And when the sound is now embedded inside every word they share
They help to feed the sound that bites them, shouting loudly,
'We don't care!'
'We don't care!'
'We don't care!'

Dangerous Words
02:40
|
|
||
You have a right to be loved
You have a right to our time
You have a right to be heard
A right to full understanding
You close your eyes
And dream of beautiful girls
Who see the hero inside you
And be your princess at last
But they utter dangerous words
Such a fatal rejection
And with an ego so fragile
It was inevitable
And it's no wonder that you snapped
We all know they deserved it
It was a terrible crime
And the punishment worth it
And you're the victim in all this
(You're sick of living in cells)
We force your hand with our blindness
(You're sick of living in cells)
And so you had to take action
(You're sick of living in…)
It's just matter of time
You have a right to be loved
You have a right to our bodies
You have a right to be touched
A right to full satisfaction
But you're locked in your cage
Feed on the hate of your cell mates
Involuntarily shackled
And persecuted by us
By the girls who never look your way
You feel the hatred burning within
You vow that one day they will pay
You scream that nice guys never win
We act like we're the ones who suffer
We cry that we just don't feel safe
You shout that not all men are monsters
And put us in our place
Because you're the victim in all this
(You're sick of living in cells)
We force your hand with our blindness
(You're sick of living in cells)
And so you had to take action
(You're sick of living in…)
It's just matter of time
And you're scared that we might laugh at you
And we won't do the things you want us to
And you're terrified we'll walk away
Or of dismissive things that we might say
and you're furious that we just can't see
So you take that anger out on me
Til it's a little bit too dangerous to say
'NO!'

Emily's Garden
02:20
|
|
||
‘Look back on Time, with kindly eyes
He doubtless did his best
How softly sinks his trembling sun
In Human Nature’s West’
Walk gently through your memories
Select the sweetest blooms
And tend the garden of your life
To yield it's fine perfumes
And though the weeds, unbidden, come
To spoil your humble plot
If carefully plucked while still quite small
Are very soon forgot
For Time, a restless gardener, is,
An undiscerning hand
He welcomes all, both weed and flower,
In rich and fertile land
But at the closing of the day
You gaze upon the view
And glad you'll be for all your toil
When final breaths imbue
‘Look back on Time, with kindly eyes
He doubtless did his best
How softly sinks that trembling sun
In Human Nature’s West’

Hidden
06:09
|
|||
I hide my face
So you won't see that I've cried
We'll carry on as if nothing's wrong
And pretend everything's alright
A smile to sooth these tender wounds
A touch to tame a raging heart
A fragile space, a hiding place
An imitation of a home
My mask
My protector
My co-conspirator
My confidant
My informer
My executioner
I'm hidden from view
I hide my face
So you won't see that I've lied
We'll carry on while it all goes wrong
A futile hope to make things right
A smile to save this hopeless case
A touch to tear a world apart
A fragile space, a hiding place
A simulation of a home
My mask
My protector
My co-conspirator
My confidant
My informer
My executioner
I'm hidden from view
My mask
My executioner
I’m hidden from you

Bold Statements
03:30
|
|||
I see you, so full of confidence
But dripping with incompetence
You impress them all with your bold statements
The King of self-publicity
No need for self-reflection,
There's no imposter in the mirror
You are dazzled by your words
No fear of contradiction
You never asked for their opinion
Spin your lies, everybody's on your side
But you don't fool me
Play your game, always someone else to blame
But you don't fool me
Pedantry covers your hypocrisy
But you don't fool me
Talking tough
You're climbing on a bluff
And far above your capability
Your clever words
So self-assured so full of bluster
Hides your lack of ingenuity
You're riding on ambition
flying high above the ceiling
But don't worry if you fall
You're cushioned by your privilege
A life of soft landings
Spin your lies, everybody's on your side
But you don't fool me
Play your game, always someone else to blame
But you don't fool me
Pedantry hides your mediocrity covers your hypocrisy
But you don't fool me
I see you

This Quiet Place
05:40
|
|||
This quiet place,
A whisper of melody,
Sheltered and safe I close my eyes, and breathe.
Lying still beneath my breath,
Watching my thoughts float overhead,
They no longer define me,
Finally I see what you are.
A memory of thoughts held close to protect me from your words,
The echos of words you spoke, a hundred years ago,
A ghost of the pain you left behind,
A phantom now only in my mind,
And with each breathe I take, You fade away into nothing
This quiet place,
Unbound from a memory,
Finally learn to let you go.
And I know
That each poisoned word I hear,
Whispering softly in my ear,
Only exists to remind me
Of a life now behind me.
And you are only
A memory of thoughts held close to protect me from your words,
The echos of words you spoke, a thousand years ago,
A ghost of the pain you left behind,
A phantom now only in my mind,
And with each breathe I take,
You fade away into silence
This poisoned gift you gave me many years ago.
Has lived deep inside me, twisted each thought and buried into the heart of me,
And that was your legacy, one final cruelty I have long endured
Until in this quiet place I see your face at last
And understand I am not my thoughts
And you are no longer in control
And there is a life that waits for me
Because I don't need you
Because you don't matter anymore
You're only the thoughts held close to protect me from your words,
Just echos of words you spoke, a thousand years ago,
A ghost of the pain now left behind,
A phantom that only exists in my mind,
And with each breathe I take,
You fade away
